1715 (2 works in 1) 1. Rerum Romanarum by Lucius Florus and 2. Liber Memorialis by Lucius Ampelius. London, Tonson. Hobhouse provenance.

Sorry, this item has sold.

A handsome printing, by the venerable firm of Jacob Tonson, of two ancient works from Rome, both histories of Rome, and both by a Lucius (although two different authors); a printing likely intended for use in the school environment, as this copies 1755 school inscription (on the flyleaf) is evidence too.

The first work, here titled Rerum Romanarum, in English is known as Epitome of Roman History and is generally accredited to a Lucius Annaeus Florus (as it is here). It covers the Roman history, from its founding until the closing of the Gates of Janus by Augustus in 25 B.C..

The second, shorter work, is Liber Memorialis attributed to Lucius Ampelius. It is known as an "extremely concise summary of universal history from the earliest times to the reign of Trajan."
