A wonderful fore-edge painting decorates the edge of this collection of John Milton's poetic works. Paradise Lost is, of course, the most respected work to be found within; but also, Paradise Regained, Samson Agonistes, and some of his smaller works.
The fore-edge painting depicts Milton, and is overlaying a more typical fore-edge painting background of an English town.
Measures 18 x 12 x 2.5 cm. Leather with gilt decoration. All edges gilt (AEG). Fore-edge painting. Marbled endpapers.
See pictures. Shelf wear with some rubbing at edges. Spine is faded. Some loss at top and bottom of spine. Ribbon is present, but silk is barely connected. Numerous bookseller notes in pencil on endpapers and half title page. No other writing.
