A fore-edge painting decorates the edge of this work on Historic Devices, Badges and War Cries. The work is interesting, discussing the meanings and giving examples of devices used throughout European history.
The fore-edge painting depicts the Royal Family, boarding a boat near a mansion on the Virginia Waters.
Charles Edward Davis, the Victorian era British architect and antiquarian, left his name on the front endpapers.
Measures 22 x 15 x 3.5 cm. Publisher's Binding. All edges gilt (AEG). Fore-edge painting.
See pictures. Shelf wear with some rubbing at edges and bumps at corners. Joint cracked 1 cm at top right of spine. Hinges cracked inside. Ex libris plate on free front endpaper; several names on verso of same page and corner clipped. Slight warp to entire text block hinting at a former exposure to a moisture rich environment (dry now though). Brown spots on title page and endpapers, but I don't see any within the book.
