A handsome and restrained fine binding graces the boards of this 1st edition work by Alfred Lord Tennyson, which includes the first book appearances of The Charge of the Light Brigade and Ode on the Death of the Duke of Wellington. This copy tight with wide margins and an added treat; the original publisher's cloth binding has been bound into the rear endpapers.

About the Work -

Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson, FRS (6 August 1809 – 6 October 1892) was Poet Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland during much of Queen Victoria's reign and remains one of the most popular British poets. Tennyson excelled at penning short lyrics, such as "Break, Break, Break", "The Charge of the Light Brigade", "Tears, Idle Tears", and "Crossing the Bar". Much of his verse was based on classical mythological themes, such as Ulysses.

Measures 17 x 10.5 x 1.5 cm. Leather, with five raised spine bands. Title in gilt in one spine compartment, "Tennyson" in another. Gilt tooled turn-ins. Pastedowns ruled in gilt. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Pages - (2) iv, 154 (2).

Condition -

See pictures. Small stamp of the binder on flyleaf rubbed out (very small). Graphite note of bookseller on blank front endpaper (1st edition, etc.). Mostly very good.
