Three of the delightful early folio editions of Babar. Father Christmas (1940) is in English; Le Roi (1933) and Les Vacances de Zephir (1936) are in French. These early folios have large, bright illustrations the later reprints don't match.
Le Roi is somewhat scarce, and often brings prices well over $100. Father Christmas is a treat, with its seasonal appeal. Les Vacances de Zephir is uniquely French, with Zephir capturing bare breasted mermaids.
Physical Attributes -
Each measures approx. 36 x 17 x 1 cm, folio. Hardcovers, with cloth spines and paper covered boards. Illustrated.
Condition -
See pictures. No dust jackets. All are well worn, with vintage patina. Rubbing and corner bumps to boards and spines. Some wear at edges. Zephir gutter cracked between quires (8, 16, etc.). Father has gift inscription in pencil on title page. Le Roi has gutter cracks and lightly foxed (more towards front). All have some thumbing, occasional toning, errant mark, etc.. Despite some wear of love, these are all delightfully bright, and in their large format, a pleasure to read.
