A handsomely bound sammelband of three 16th century works, including Aesop's Fables, in Greek and Latin (bound at rear). The binding has a very attractive Lily flower motif, making it a very attractive small volume.

I reached out to the Reichersberg Abbey verifying that this book was legally withdrawn (see stamps), something I commonly do with stamped books. They told me, by email, they'd look into it; but they did not follow-up. I sent a reminder approx. one month later, still no response. I waited two months from contacting them before putting the book for sale.

Beautiful calf binding with central arabesque medallion to front and rear board comprising of scrolling floral decoration interspersed with geometric design and lilies. Front and rear board framed in double gilt fillet. Remains of bright green ties, color especially bright at rear (a small treat). Turn-ins blind tooled with chain-like roll.

See pictures. Front joint cracked and some rudimentary repairs seem likely as chip at bottom of spine is still in place. A small chip missing at top and bottom of spine also. Several darker marks on front and rear board. Ties mostly expired. Turn-ins have ghosted pastedowns. Several ink numbers on pastedown.
Flyleaf (blank 1st unpaginated leaf) excised. Stamp of Reichersberg Bibliothek on each title page. Underlining occasional throughout Manlii and Aesopi. Chip at the bottom corner of Manlii p.74 and a spot at the bottom margin of Manlii page 77. Occasional dog-ear to pages. Top right corner of text block lightly bumped at rear (Aesopi mostly). Pages 34 and 35 dog-ear darkened at top margin corners. Occasional toning to pages. Binder's (or bookseller's) note ("iv JB 12") on recto of rear flyleaf.
Despite a little wear of the centuries, a very attractive binding with handsome easy-to-read typography.
