The Journals and Letters of Major John Owens. This copy, a presentation copy of the editor, publisher, and well-known Western Americana bookseller "Edward Eberstadt". It is also one of a limited edition of fifty copies printed on large paper, and this copy is unopened (at printing the leaves are larger, and folded to make the pages; in this copy the folds have not been cut, so some pages have not been accessed yet).
Major John Owens is yet another character that challenges the revisionist history narrative of the settlers as invaders that stole the natives lands. Owens married a native, and partnered with the natives in the region in farming. He is considered a Montana settler hero.
This book was given to an A.H. Greenly, who ran Father Richard's Press in Detroit. E.E. writes, "To a rare and gentle friend".
