1795 Processionale Pro Ecclesiis... Hymnos, Antiphonas, etc. with musical notes.

A well-used 1795 Processionale, containing music and lyrics, designed for rural churches, containing hymns, anntiphonals, psalms, processions, etc.. This copy is particularly intriguing for its signs of use; some passages are heavily thumbed, and even have annotations. In addition, the owner(s?) added annotations and a manuscript psalm and praise at the rear.

Interesting note, the royal privilege (last leaf) is given by Maria Theresa, the only female ruler of the Habsburg dominions.

Physical Attributes -

Measures approx. 23 x 17.5 x 2.5 cm. Calf binding. Boards with blind fillet border and inner border blind roll of flowers. Spine with some gilt fillets simulating bands, and the title in blind "Processionale". Marbled endpapers. Printer's device on title page. Music staff notes throughout. Pages - viii, 124, lxxxiii.

Condition -

See pictures. Well-loved binding; edge, corner and joint wear with board rubbing. Front joint cracked 2" at bottom. Rear joint cracked 1" at bottom. Corners exposed. Heavily thumbed throughout (finger-mark staining along fore-edge margin). Some red tracing within the decorative printer's device on title page. Occasional dog-eared page. Darkening at 44/45 and ink annotation at top edge (trimmed by binding). Some songs have darkening indicating greater use/thumbing. An antiphona tipped-in at xxxviii, and some underlining and annotations on xxxix. Much darkening and soiling at rear (xliv forward); it seems the laudes were heavily referenced. Some annotations at Antiphona de B. Maria Virgine (lxxiv). Underlining and annotations at lxxix. Flyleaf with Ps. 3 written on it at rear. Between rear flyleaf and pastedown a "Laudibus" tipped-in.
