Richly illustrated Discoveries and Inventions of the Nineteenth Century, by Roberg Routledge. This copy bound handsomely in a prize binding of Aldeburgh School; Reginald E. Crosse won it in 1879 for "Mathematics Summer Term"; this school now operates as Orwell Park in Nacton.

This book is richly illustrated with interesting and engaging illustrations showing things such as the Crystal Palace, color spectrum, how to make ghosts on stage, etc.. A handsome book, with great illustrations.

Physical Attributes -

Measures approx. 13 x 19 x 4 cm. Crushed calf binding. Boards ruled in gilt, with outer frame of foliage in blind and central gilt armorial of Alderburgh school. Spine with five raised bands; five compartments decorated with gilt, and one with the title in gilt on black morocco. Illustrated. 594 pages.

Condition -

See pictures. Some rubbing and marks to boards. Edge, joint and corner wear. Slight sunning to spine. 1 cm crack at top of front joint. Top edge a little darkened. Ex-libris plate on pastedown. A little toning and occasional fox spots throughout. 1/2 title thumbed. Occasional thumb throughout.
