Orientalism. 1885 Sharp, Sharper and Sharpest, A Humourous Tale of Old Egypt by Carl Maria Seyppel

A humorous graphic novel cartoon of "Old Egypt", produced by the German artist and cartoonist Carl Maria Seyppel. A work of Orientalism, with humor based on the peculiar traits of Egyptian royalty.

Designed to look like a relic of old Egypt, this copy is certainly achieving that. With it's chipped edges, chipped seal, etc., this copy looks ancient. Don't worry, price reflects condition; a quick Vialibri search sees prices starting at $650 for this book.

Seyppel's biography notes that he was a member of the academic artists' association "Orient", that his Egyptian humoresques were a precursor to the "comics", printed on "mummy paper"; and that he was in correspondence with Egyptologist Georg Ebers when producing this work.

Despite condition, all pages are present. And the condition adds to the effect, with this book.
