1846 Book of Common Prayer, with cherubim fore-edge paintings. The fore-edge is split in two directions, at the middle, and the paintings appear in each direction when you lay half the text block over in the appropriate direction.

About the Book of Common Prayer -

Oxford University Press edition. Includes the Psalms, and the New Testament (at the end).

Physical Attributes -

Measures approx. 14 x 8 x 4.5 cm. Brown leather with gold-colored metal bordering the board edges. One clasp on front board. All edges gilt. "Church Services" on spine in gilt. Spine with five raised bands. Unpaginated. Two fore-edge paintings, one on each half of the book.

Condition -

See pictures. Book is missing rear clasp, which wrapped around; front clasp a little loose. A little edge wear and rubbing to binding. Flyleaf missing; ghost of name on paste-down. 1st blank unpaginated leaf largely loose at gutter and with prices at top-edge. One blue spot along fore-edge of second half (perhaps a painter's mistake?). Last printed leaf with "5" at bottom. Last blank unpaginated leaf with toning and fox spot. Several signatures near the middle lightly dog-eared at the top corner. Silk ties/place keepers only stubs at the headband.
