Sold not subject to return: Two sets of 18th century prints, one medical and one armorial.
The Carlo Cesi work has 15 plates, in folio size, of bodies. From the morbid poses, I would guess Cesi prepared these works based on cadavers arranged with ropes. The work is missing one plate. There are some attractive manuscript sketches on the back of some plates.
The armorial is a fifth volume, printed to be added to an existing work. There are 23 leaves of engravings; the odd number likely means that the work is missing leaves at the end.
Both are disbound (not in a binding). Both are barely held together by some binding thread.
Both are from the Valentine Museum in Richmond Virginia. I bought them from an auction of some of their books, etc..
Please, do not buy these if condition is your thing; that would be foolish. This is for someone that wants some neat historical prints at a decent price. Nice copies of the Cesi work can be costly.
I was going to rebind them, but I don't think the condition warrants them. Selling them at about break even price (that includes my shipping costs, auction costs, taxes, etc.; so if you find the auction, please understand why I'm asking more).
