Handsome 1824 set of the Historical Romances of Sir Walter Scott, bound in straight-grain black morocco leather with beautiful gilt tooling. Novels included are: Ivanhoe, The Monastery, The Abbot and Kenilworth.
Physical Attributes -
Each volume measures approx. 14.5 x 9 x 2.5 cm. Black straigh-grain morocco bindings. Boards with frame of double gilt fillet and inner flower and leaf roll in gilt; another blind roll frame within the gilt frames. Spines with four raised bands; three compartments with leaves and acorns in gilt, two compartments with the title and volume in gilt. All edges gilt. Illustrations at frontis plates.
Condition -
See pictures. Binding are worn with a little rubbing, some edge and corner wear, crazing at joints, etc.. Chip at head of Vol 5 spine. Bookseller notes on front endpapers. Some foxing throughout, but cleaner away from ends. Occasional thumb, dog-eared corner, etc. A little dust at top-edges.
