1619 Parallel text folio Bible, a reprint of the volume from the Plantin Polyglot. Greek NT and apocrypha, Hebrew OT, with interlinear Latin

$1,999.99

A beautiful 1619 complete Bible, in the original languages, with interlinear Latin; a well-regarded translation and a later edition of one volume of the famous Plantin Polyglot Bible. This copy in a fresh, strong and handsome binding, with repair to the text block; this copy is ready for centuries more of service.

A 1619 reprinting of the Plantin Polyglot Bible's Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament and Apocrypha volume, which includes interlinear Latin. This 1619 edition added a "Correctiones" section after the New Testament (and the Chronologia/Index might also be new), and changed the NT title page.

Typographically, the OT, NT and Apocrypha match the 1572 and 1584 Plantin editions and are likely from the same type (not reset). You can see the 1572 edition of Plantin online to compare; Google Books hosts the 1572 work as owned by Ghent University (search Google Books for "Biblia Hebraica" with a year range of 1571-1573).

I note also that Montano's introduction to the OT is laid-out different in the 1572 edition, but it is the same content.

About the Plantin Polyglot -

This edition reprints one volume of the Plantin Polyglot Bible.

The Plantin Polyglot was a massive undertaking from the impressive Plantin press, which included the Bible in five languages, printed in eight volumes between 1568 and 1573. Not just a reprint of earlier bibles, Plantin involved Biblical scholars of the day to study manuscripts and improve the text, including Benito Arias Montanus (credited with being a chief editor).

Volumes 1-4 included the OT in Hebrew, Latin, Greek and Aramaic. Volume 5 contained the NT in Greek and Syriac. Volume 6 is here reprinted. The last two volumes were multi-language dictionaries.

The eight-volume set didn't sell well, but Plantin released a second edition of this volume in 1584, and Rouviere in 1618/1619.

A complete printed-on-vellum set of the 1572 edition sold on July 11, 2018 (Christie's London) for 488,750 pounds (including buyer's premium).
