An early Latin translation (by some considered the best) of the Rosetta Stone, complete with a translation of both the Egyptian hieroglyphs and the Greek inscriptions. This is the 1st edition of Uhlemann's translation. An important 19th century work to add to your Egyptology library.
Uhlemann taught Egyptology and archaeology at University in Germany.
A very thorough work, filled with hieroglyphs.
In addition to the discussion of the Rosetta Stone, there is a glossary which includes more Egyptian-Coptic-Latin translations and notes.
Measuring 27 x 21 x 2.5 cm, 180 numbered pages. Orange cloth hardcover with gilt title and fillet border. All edges gilt. Spine repair of library.
Library of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia (U.S.).
See pictures. Ex-library with all associated marks, stamps, stickers, wear and library repairs (re-spined). Free front-endpaper (1st blank page across from front board) has had the corner cut off of it, deleting writing. In addition to library markings, there is a name inscribed on the title page. I don't find writing within the work. There are some spots of foxing.
