A rich repertory of German proverbs from the early 17th century (this is a later edition). Title translates roughly, Flowers of Politics, Political Sentiments, Doctrines, Regulations, Expressions of Theology, Juris, Political, Historical, Philosophy, and the Poets.

The Germans claim that this was one of the best collections for many years. Just recently a modern author quoted this work, and the claim that a good King is much like a clock (Technology and the Early Modern Self, Cohen).

"All's Well that Ends Well", Wikiquote accredits to this work by Lehmann; although regional sayings are hard to attribute to a specific person.

Christopher Lehmann was a historiographer and town-guide of Speyer.

Physical Attributes -

Measures 14.5 x 8.5 x 4.75 cm. 12mo. Blue leather binding with five raised bands, five compartments with sprays of leaves at the corners and a center flower with fleur-de-lis extruding from the flower all in gilt, one compartment with the title in gilt, and year at the bottom of the spine in gilt. Marbled endpapers, with gilt decoration covering the fold at the turn-in. All edges red, with red and blue two colored endband.

Condition of the Book -

See pictures. Binding is in a wonderful condition. Loss of bottom right corner of one blank unpaginated front endpaper, chipping around both blank endpapers. The title page has a few barely discernible moisture marks (bottom right, top left gutter) but they are gone by the page 15. All pages toned. Occasional spot or chipping. Between the two sections of the book someone pasted in, at the foreedge, a small piece of metal (can be seen in pictures) that delineates the start of the second work/section. Very last printed page (register) has some loss at foreedge that doesn't affect text.
