About the Literature
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) was an American poet and educator whose works include Paul Revere's Ride, The Song of Hiawatha, and Evangeline. He was also the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, and was one of the five Fireside Poets from New England. He became the most popular American poet of his day and also had success overseas.
1/2 leather fine binding with marbled paper boards. Spines have five raised ribs, and four compartments with gilt double fillet borders, one compartment with "Works of Longfellow" and one with "Prose (1 & 2)" in gilt. Top edge gilt.
See pictures. Some shelf wear with the occasional marks on boards or spine and rubbing at corners and edges. Silk ribbons frayed at meeting point with top endband. All volumes - Old bookseller pencil notes erased on back of pastedown. Five leaves, pages 11-22 of Driftwood have a bump chip at very bottom edge. Else, text blocks are clean, white and wide margined. A clean and handsome set of Longfellow's Prose Works, sure to look great on any shelf. Leather feels soft.
