1910 Poetical Works of George Herbert. Editor, Rev. Grosart.

Sorry, this item has sold.

A very handsome edition of George Herbert's Poetical Works. This edition has never before printed corrections - "The text has been collated with all the original and early editions, and the MSS. in William's Library and the Bodleian.

Includes: Memoir, The Temple, The Church Militant, Lilies of the Temple (from an unpublished MSS), Psalms, Secular Poems, Parentalia, Anti-Tami-Cami Categoria, Pro Disciplina Ecclesiae Nostrae Epigrammata Apologetica, Alia Poemata Latina, Passio Discerpta, Longer Notes and Illustrations on Special Points

I believe the binding is a fine binding for these reasons:
1. I reviewed all other Herbert editions published by G. Bell, available on Vialibri, and didn't find one bound in this manner; others are in cloth and leather.
2. The endpapers don't seem like a type that would be used in mass production.
3. The rear endpapers have pencil notes that are typical of a binder.
4. I searched all G. Bell and Sons publications for sale from 1908 to 1914 and didn't find a similarly bound book for sale on Vialibri.
5. Double-endbands, that look hand sewn, not mass produced.
