An opportunity to own 19th century examples of Lewis Carroll's wonderful and celebrated works, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass. Both are illustrated richly by John Tenniel.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an 1877 edition, printed by Macmillan (who also printed the 1st edition) with forty-two illustrations by Tenniel. Note, a handful of the illustrations in this copy have been partially colored by a previous owner.
Through the Looking Glass is an 1898 edition, also printed by Macmillan. It contains fifty illustrations by John Tenniel. Carroll adds a preface to this edition, with some interesting points on the chess illustration and on how to pronounce the words in the poem "Jabberwocky". There is also a "Christmas-Greetings".
