Perhaps an under-appreciated work, here is an illustrated edition of Tyndall's Heat, A Mode of Motion bound in a 19th century (never-awarded) prize binding of the King Edward VI School, Norwich (now Norwich School).
Physical Attributes -
Measures approx. 18.5 x 12 x 3.5 cm. Green morocco prize binding with central armorial of Norwich School to front board, and banner to rear board in gilt. Spine with five raised bands; five compartments with gilt decoration, and one with title in gilt on black morocco. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Illustrated. 591 pages.
Condition -
See pictures. Chip at right top-of-spine/2cm crack at top of front joint. Binding with edge and corner wear, and a few rubs. Large (devoid) prize plate on pastedown. Some foxing and toning as is typical of late 19th century paper throughout, not excessive. Folding at fore-edge margin frontis fold-out. Textblock is quite clean, I see only some dog-eared pages. No annotation, no tears. Occasional fox spot, light toning.
