A beautiful, complete in eight-volumes, 1764 Missel de Paris, in Latin and French. The red morocco leather bindings are lovely, accentuated by dutch-gilt endpapers. All-edges gilt further make the bindings of this work shine.
Physical Attributes -
Each volume measures approx. 17 x 10 x 3 cm. Red morocco bindings. Boards with an outer frame of triple gilt rule, with corner florets. Spines with five raised bands; four compartments with a central gilt floret surrounded by curling leaves, and two compartments with Missel de Paris and Tom (x) in gilt. All edges gilt. Board edges ruled in gilt. Turn-ins rolled with a gilt alternating leaf and geometric design. Dutch-gilt endpapers. All edges gilt.
Condition -
See pictures. Very attractive bindings, with a pretty shine to them. A little signs of wear, but light; corner, joint and edge wear with a few light board rubs. A small chip at the top of the eighth volume's spine (less than 1 cm). Top-edge a little darkened by dust.
It looks like an ex-libris was removed from the pastedown of v1 as there is about square inch of material remaining. Many bookseller marks on the back of the flyleaf, and on the blank endpaper (nothing of significance).
Title page v1 with a little thumbing. Pages throughout all volumes a little toned. Occasional fox spot. Occasional dog-eared corner.
Really a beautiful set, despite my nit-picking. The bindings display wonderfully well. The paper is a little toned, with the occasional fox spots, but annotation and ex-libris free.
