A handsome 1860 edition of Walter White's All Round the Wrekin. A fun work, describing rambling around England in the 19th century, by foot.
From the title page, "With unabated beauty the land of England blooms and grows...".
The topics covered seem wide-ranging, from the beauty of nature, to the vices of men (with a section titled "Street Lawlessness").
Physical Attributes -
Measures approx. 19.5 x 12.5 x 2 cm. Calf spine and corners, marbled paper covering hardcover boards. Spine with five raised bands; title in gilt on black morocco in one compartment. All edges sprinkled red. 428 pages.
Condition -
See pictures. Edge wear and exposed corners of boards to binding. Some rubbing to binding boards and spine. A few darkened spots on spine. Turn-ins ghosted flyleaf. Fox spot on blank unpaginated front endpaper, which has also spotted the title page and reverse of the flyleaf. Erased ex libris at top margin of title page has left fuzzy paper. Thumb mark at bottom of title page. I see an occasional thumb and fox spot throughout the book. A little toning towards edges. Rear endpapers (blank) foxed, which has ghosted onto the facing last several index pages. Blank rear endpaper has sketch of a church interior in graphite (older church, with rood screen and stairs to pulpit).
